			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Today I was told about an incredibly useful feature in WordPress that I never knew existed: automatic revisions.</p>
<p>WordPress apparently automatically stores versions of pages and posts as you update them. I&#8217;m not sure what, if any, the limit is, but it appears to go back a good 15 revisions at least, and rolling back to these previous versions of your published content is a breeze. Here&#8217;s how to view and roll back to your content&#8217;s revisions:</p>
<ol>
<li>Go to the <strong>Edit</strong> page of the post or page you are interested in.</li>
<li>Click <strong>Screen Options</strong> in the top right corner of the edit screen.</li>
<li>Check <strong>Revisions.</strong></li>
<li>Now scroll down under the WYSIWYG editor (textarea you type in when writing posts) until you see a box titled <strong>Revisions</strong>. You&#8217;ll probably notice several revisions which look like:<em> 15 June, 2011 @ 1:00 by Author Name.</em></li>
<li>To view a revision&#8217;s details, click on its date-and-time hyperlink.</li>
<li>You&#8217;ll be taken to a screen where you can view all the revisions of that piece of content. On this page you can scroll down and select two revisions and click <strong>Compare Revisions, </strong>or click <strong>Restore</strong> on the right side of the screen to restore a particular revision.</li>
</ol>
<p>After just beginning to work with SVN these past few months, I am definitely sold on the importance and handiness of revision systems, and it was a very nice surprise to find out WordPress had one of its own!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In this post I just wanted to quickly talk about one of the most powerful parts of vanilla Javascript: the <em>window</em>object. According to w3schools, &#8220;The window object represents an open window in a browser. If a document contain frames (&lt;frame&gt; or &lt;iframe&gt; tags), the browser creates one window object for the HTML document, and one additional window object for each frame.&#8221; (<a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/obj_window.asp" target="_blank">http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/obj_window.asp</a>)</p>
<p>The window object in Javascript provides a whole slew of cool information and methods to us developers, a list of which you can read about <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/obj_window.asp" target="_blank">here</a>.</p>
<p>Some cool things you can do using the window object:</p>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/met_win_open.asp" target="_blank">Open a pop-up window which loads a specific URL and can be any size you want</a></li>
<li><a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/met_win_resizeto.asp" target="_blank">Resize that same pop-up window</a></li>
<li><a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/met_win_close.asp" target="_blank">Close that same window</a></li>
<li><a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/met_win_prompt.asp" target="_blank">Show a prompt box dialogue that accepts user input</a> or <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/met_win_confirm.asp" target="_blank">show a OK / Cancel prompt box instead</a></li>
<li>Using the <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/obj_navigator.asp" target="_blank">Navigator Object</a>, you have access to information such as the user&#8217;s browser&#8217;s user agent string, information on whether or not cookies are enabled, and more.</li>
<li>Using the <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/obj_history.asp" target="_blank">History Object</a>, you have access to limited information about a user&#8217;s browsing history.</li>
<li>Using the <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/obj_location.asp" target="_blank">Location Object</a>, you can<a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/met_loc_reload.asp" target="_blank"> reload the current window</a>,  retrieve different sections of the current window&#8217;s URL such as its query string, its protocol, its hostname, and more.</li>
<li>You can get information on the current window&#8217;s width and height with or without scrollbars, the current scroll position / offset</li>
<li>You can get a total count of all frames / iframes on the current page</li>
</ul>
<p>One of the most interesting properties of the window object is the <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/prop_win_opener.asp" target="_blank">opener</a> property. After using window.open(), window.opener gives you access to information about the parent window which opened that new window. For example you could open a new window using window.open() and then use the opener property to retrieve information from the opener window.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s how to do that with jQuery:</p>
<p></p><pre class="crayon-plain-tag">$('#selector',window.opener.document); //this will find an html element with id 'selector' in the opener document

alert($('#selector',window.opener.document).html()); //this will alert any text inside that element

$('#selector',window.opener.document).html('Some new text.'); //this will overwrite any text inside that element</pre><p></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.mybb.com/" target="_blank">MyBB</a> is a free forum software you can use to set up your own forum. It has the ability to create, export, and import custom themes, in addition to the ability to download free contributed themes and install them onto your instance of MyBB. In this post I will (very briefly) go over how to get started creating your own custom theme for MyBB.</p>
<p>You of course need a copy of MyBB installed on a web server or a local dev environment.</p>
<ol>
<li>Log into MyBB&#8217;s admin (www.myforum.com/admin).</li>
<li>Click on <strong>Templates and Style</strong> in the top admin bar.</li>
<li>Click <strong>Create New Theme</strong> in the faded tabs on this page.</li>
<li>Enter a name for your new theme, and select which theme you&#8217;d like to base your theme off of from the dropdown list under <strong>Parent Theme</strong>. (You can download contributed themes <a href="http://mods.mybb.com/themes" target="_blank">here</a> and base your theme off of one of those, if the license allows for that kind of modification). Then click <strong>Create New Theme</strong> below.</li>
<li>You&#8217;ll be taken to a page that says &#8216;theme created successfully&#8217; at the top in green, and below you&#8217;ll see all the stylesheets your new theme is currently inheriting from its parent theme. What we&#8217;re going to do now is create copies of each of the stylesheets your new theme is inheriting so we&#8217;ll have an easier time adding custom CSS styles to the theme&#8217;s inherited styles. To create copies of each of your theme&#8217;s inheritied stylesheets, under <strong>Stylesheets</strong> click the name of each stylesheet and then scroll down and click <strong>Save Changes and Close</strong> on the next page. You&#8217;ll notice that for each inherited stylesheet that you re-save the text &#8220;(Inherited from <em>Parent Theme Name</em>)&#8221; no longer appears. This lets you know that you have created a &#8216;local&#8217; copy of those styles inside your theme, and you can now modify and add to those styles to your heart&#8217;s content. **Note: technically you do not have to re-save all of the stylesheets your theme is inheriting; you can just re-save &#8216;global.css&#8217; for example if you only want to make modifications to that stylesheet.</li>
<li>Now you can make modifications to the stylesheets you just re-saved by clicking on a stylesheet&#8217;s title again, and editing the properties and declarations on the Edit Stylesheet screen. You have the choice of two tabs when making CSS alterations: <strong>Simple Mode</strong> and <strong>Advanced Mode</strong>. I personally prefer Advanced Mode as it just displays the entire stylesheet and I feel I can make my edits and additions more easily that way.</li>
</ol>
<p>If you want to edit not just the CSS styling of your theme but the template markup as well, do the following:</p>
<ol>
<li>While logged into the admin section, click <strong>Templates and Style</strong>.</li>
<li>On the left side of the screen, click <strong>Templates.</strong></li>
<li>Click the <strong>Add Set</strong> tab.</li>
<li>Enter a title for your new set (for example, you could just name the new template set the same name as your new theme) and click <strong>Save</strong>.</li>
<li>Now that your new template set is created, you need to assign this template set to your new theme by clicking <strong>Themes</strong> on the left, clicking the title of your new theme on the next screen, scrolling down and choosing your new template set from the dropdown menu under <strong>Template Set*</strong>.</li>
<li>Finally scroll down and click <strong>Save Theme Properties.</strong></li>
</ol>
<p>You can now edit the default templates that came with your newly created template set by clicking <strong>Templates</strong> on the left side of the screen again, clicking the title of your new template set on the next screen, and choosing a template to edit by clicking on the titles of template &#8216;sections&#8217; and navigating to specific templates. For example, to replace the logo image of your theme with a simple HTML link, click on <strong>Header Templates</strong> on the page which lists your new template set&#8217;s templates, then click <strong>Header</strong> in the list of links that opens under Header Templates to open the Edit screen for the Header template.</p>
<p>You could then modify the line that looks like:</p>
<p></p><pre class="crayon-plain-tag">&lt;div class=&quot;logo&quot;&gt;&lt;a href=&quot;{$mybb-&gt;settings['bburl']}/index.php&quot;&gt;&lt;img src=&quot;{$theme['logo']}&quot; alt=&quot;{$mybb-&gt;settings['bbname']}&quot; title=&quot;{$mybb-&gt;settings['bbname']}&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</pre><p></p>
<p>&#8230;to look instead like this:</p>
<p></p><pre class="crayon-plain-tag">&lt;div class=&quot;logo&quot;&gt;&lt;h1&gt;&lt;a href=&quot;{$mybb-&gt;settings['bburl']}/index.php&quot;&gt;{$mybb-&gt;settings['bbname']}&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/h1&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</pre><p></p>
<p>You can also export your custom theme by clicking on <strong>Templates and Style</strong> in the top admin bar, clicking in your custom theme&#8217;s title, clicking the <strong>Export Theme</strong> tab, and finally clicking <strong>Export Theme</strong>. Note, though, that MyBB will only export an XML file that contains everything about your theme, including meta information such as the theme&#8217;s title, all your theme&#8217;s CSS, and all your theme&#8217;s template code, but MyBB will not export any of your theme&#8217;s images. To export your images you must go to the directory where you have MyBB installed, copy any images you added for your theme from the /images/ folder in the MyBB directory, and back them up manually in a folder or a .zip file along with your theme&#8217;s XML export. </p>
<p>So for example, if you download a contributed theme from <a href="http://mods.mybb.com/themes" target="_blank">http://mods.mybb.com/themes</a>, typically to install a contributed theme you will have to copy the theme&#8217;s images folder into the /images/ folder in your MyBB installation&#8217;s directory, then go to <strong>Templates and Style > Import a Theme</strong> in MyBB&#8217;s admin, and browse to the contributed theme&#8217;s XML file. Unlike WordPress, you can&#8217;t simply upload the .zip file you downloaded from MyBB&#8217;s theme page; you must manually copy the theme&#8217;s images into MyBB&#8217;s /images/ folder according to each theme&#8217;s README file.</p>

Easy to insall and use; adds a windows explorer right-click context menu entry for quick searching; allows regex or simple text string search or search-and-replace &#8212; a nice, simple, free GREP tool.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Here&#8217;s a way to export your WordPress pages and posts and import them into a Drupal 7 installation:</p>
<ol>
<li>Log into your WordPress site and go to <strong>Tools &gt; Export</strong></li>
<li>Choose &#8216;All content, just &#8216;Posts&#8217;, or just &#8216;Pages&#8217; and click <strong>Download Export File</strong> to download an XML export of your WP site&#8217;s content.</li>
<li>Download the &#8216;WordPress Migrate&#8217; module located here: <a href="http://drupal.org/project/wordpress_migrate" target="_blank">http://drupal.org/project/wordpress_migrate</a></li>
<li>Download the &#8216;Migrate&#8217; module here: <a href="http://drupal.org/project/migrate" target="_blank">http://drupal.org/project/migrate</a></li>
<li>Unzip both modules and place the modulea&#8217; folders into your <strong>sites/all/modules</strong> folder.</li>
<li>Log into your Drupal site, click on <strong>Modules</strong> in the top admin bar and scroll down and activate the two modules.</li>
<li>Then, using the top admin bar again go to <strong>Content &gt; WordPress Migration</strong></li>
<li>Click the <strong>Choose File</strong> button under &#8216;WordPress exported (WXR) file to import into Drupal&#8217; and navigate to your XML export file that you downloaded earlier.</li>
<li>Finally click <strong>Import WordPress Blog</strong> and the import will run.</li>
</ol>
<p>If you go to <strong>Content &gt; WordPress Migration &gt; Configure</strong> in the top admin bar, you can configure several aspects of the migrate such as whether to use Filtered HTML or Full HTML as the format for the new node&#8217;s text fields; whether to import Tags and Categories from your WordPress site and if so which taxonomy term to assign to each; and which type of node to assign to imported WordPress &#8216;Posts&#8217; and &#8216;Pages&#8217; (for example, you may want to import Posts as node type &#8216;Blog Entry&#8217; or as node type &#8216;Story&#8217;.</p>
<p>If you want to import a WordPress site&#8217;s content into a Drupal 6 installation, you might have some luck trying this module: <a href="http://drupal.org/project/wordpress_import" target="_blank">http://drupal.org/project/wordpress_import</a></p>

		<description><![CDATA[<p>I recommend this tutorial for anyone who wants to learn how to develop a custom Drupal 7 theme from scratch: http://www.apaddedcell.com/how-create-drupal-7-theme-scratch. The tutorial also provides enough information that the concepts could be extended if you were looking to convert an HTML / CSS template to a Drupal 7 theme.</p>
